Physical therapists, according to the American Physical Therapy Association,
are movement experts who optimize the quality of life through prescribed exercise, hands-on care, and patient education.
But to most people, we're seen as massage therapists. I mean, I won't blame you if you were one of those people, I was too. We're not so far off though.
As I started my educational journey I learnt that though we do learn massage therapy, we are much more than that.
We evaluate our client's conditions and carefully develop plans to help them reach the optimum quality of life they can achieve.
Each patient is different, ranging from neurological disorders to musculoskeletal injuries or disabilities connected to metabolic, cardiovascular conditions, and more. Physical Therapy is needed as much as other health allied professions, since in this time of crisis, with the pandemic at large. It's not just the Nurses, Doctors and Medical Technologists who are essential in taking care of those affected by the virus. Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapist and Speech-Language Pathologists are, too. Especially those who have now recovered and are needing assistance in gaining back their physical strength. So, before you turn your nose up at Physical Therapists deeming them as 'masahista lang' (just a massage therapist). Learning about the profession and actually understanding what the job of Physical Therapist entails, would be beneficial not just for you but for those you'll converse with. Because knowledge is nothing if it's not shared. - AJ x (https://ajsnotes.wordpress.com)
